About this private tour
one of the most beautiful temples in Chiang Mai.
Explore the 700-year old site, This Chiang Mai temple near Doi Suthep mountain is also known as the “Tunnel Temple” both for its unique network of underground tunnels and its location in the forest. There is a large stupa to visit, as well as “teaching trees” which feature words of wisdom in both Thai and English. Monks here live in a very natural setting, among deer and ponds full of fish and turtles. It is a very unique temple by location in the forest surrounding and peaceful atmosphere, an ancient temple more than 700 years old built into the side of Suthep mountain, fewer tourists and full of cultural experience.
Wat Sri Suphan is also known as the Silver Temple
Continue to Wat Srisuphan, known as the ‘silver temple’ for the Lanna-made silver detailing that covers the ordination hall inside and out. This is only one temple in Thailand that is covered by beautifully worked silver plates. We’ll walk around the temple to see the workshop where the local artisans are still carving, hammering and sculpting in the temple exterior. note that women are not allowed inside Wat Srisuphan, which is an active ordination hall for Buddhist monks.
Private tour Wiang Kum Kam @ wat Chedi Liem
Next, visit the ancient site of Wiang Kum Kam, the onetime capital of the Lanna Kingdom, where excavated ruins surround brick plinths and Wat Chedi Liam, a stepped pyramid chedi in Mon style. After touring a few temples in the Wiang Kum Kam area, head to a celebrated local restaurant for lunch: try Khao Soi, a traditional noodle dish with a rich, curry-like sauce, aromatic herbs, and spices. After lunch, make the return trip to your hotel.
